内容概要：This paper examines the long-term effects of economic depressions – defined as multi-year peak-to-trough GDP declines of at least 10 percent – experienced until young adulthood on the wealth distribution and portfolio allocation of older individuals in Europe. We document that experiencing more economic depression years when young have a positive effect on wealth at older ages. By analyzing individual portfolio choices, preferences and personality, we find that, while experiencing a depression makes individuals more risk averse, it also increases their financial planning horizon and conscientiousness. These results provide evidence that individuals who experienced economic depressions when young invest less in risky assets but save more, and thus tend to accumulate more wealth in the long run.

Viola Angelini，荷蘭格羅甯根大學經濟與商學院教授，經濟、計量經濟學與金融系科學主任，在全球勞動組織（GLO）、荷蘭跨學科人口研究所（NIDI）、都靈大學養老金與福利政策研究中心（CeRP）以及約克大學健康、計量經濟學與數據小組（HEDG）等機構擔任研究員。研究領域主要集中在應用微觀計量經濟學、家庭儲蓄與消費行為以及健康經濟學，主持并參與多項歐洲研究項目，研究成果在《Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization》《Health Economics》《European Economic Review》《Social Science & Medicine》等國際知名學術期刊發表論文30餘篇，出版專著7本。

内容概要：This study investigates lifetime socioeconomic health disparities through longitudinal biomarkers from the Dutch Lifelines cohort study and biobank. We construct an allostatic load index from 12 biomarkers and analyze the dynamics of health and its association with socioeconomic status (SES) over the life cycle. Our findings reveal that health risks linked to lower SES emerge early and precede chronic disease onset. Further analysis investigates the drivers of allostatic load and emphasizes health behaviors. The results highlight the need for early interventions targeting SES-related health disparities and provide new insights into the physiological pathways linking SES to long-term health outcomes.

内容概要：This study investigates the impact of adult children’s marital status on the labor force participation of their parents in China, utilizing individual-level panel data. The analysis reveals that parents with unmarried adult children are more likely to remain in or re-enter the workforce compared to those whose children are married. This increased labor participation appears to be driven by the financial support parents provide to their unmarried children. The findings align more closely with the altruistic motive—where parents support their children out of concern for their well-being—rather than the exchange motive, which suggests a reciprocal expectation of support. Robustness checks, including variations in sample selection, data sources, and model specifications, confirm the stability of these results. Additionally, the effect is more pronounced among mothers, indicating a gendered dimension in parental labor responses to children’s marital status.
