内容概要：How can we sustain China’s long-term economic growth and high-quality development? How can we fundamentally reduce urban-rural disparities and advance common prosperity? This lecture will introduce the critical importance of early childhood development (ECD) in rural China. Research shows that the urban-rural education gap stems from early childhood, and investing in ECD offers high returns in narrowing this gap and improving future workforce quality. Currently, a major challenge for rural infants and toddlers in China is the lack of responsive caregiving from their caregivers.The lecture will present Prof. Rozelle’s team’s groundbreaking caregiver-led intervention programs in rural China, demonstrating their proven effectiveness and latest findings in boosting ECD. It will argue that such interventions are not only vital for improving rural children’s education but also a crucial strategy for China to overcome the middle-income trap and achieve high-quality development.
專家簡介：
Scott Rozelle，斯坦福大學Helen C. Farnsworth特聘教授、Freeman Spogli國際研究所（FSI）高級研究員、中國經濟與制度研究中心聯合主任。美國經濟學會、美國農業經濟學會、國際農業經濟學家學會、計量經濟學會終身會士。主要研究發展經濟學、農業經濟學和資源環境經濟學，重點關注教育、營養和兒童早期發展。先後在Nature、Science、American Economic Review、The Economic Journal等國際頂級期刊發表論文400餘篇。曾榮獲美國農業與應用經濟學會終身成就獎，中國政府友誼獎（2008年），2019年榮獲中共中央、國務院、中央軍委頒發的紀念勳章。
